Steamed asparagus celebrates the vegetable in its purest form—fresh, vibrant, and perfectly tender with a gentle bite. Lightly seasoned with salt and black pepper, this method preserves asparagus’ natural sweetness and nutritional value while letting its delicate flavour shine through. Finished with a drizzle of melted butter or a squeeze of lemon, this simple preparation proves that sometimes the least complicated recipes are the most satisfying.

Ingredients

  • Asparagus: 1 bunch
  • Salt: to taste
  • Black pepper: to taste
  • Lemon wedges: for serving (optional)
  • Butter: 1 tablespoon (optional, for drizzling)

Method

  • Wash the asparagus under cold water to remove any dirt or debris.
  • Trim off the tough ends of the asparagus stalks (usually about 1-2 inches from the bottom).
  • Place a steam rack on glass tray inside the oven on low rack position.
  • Arrange the asparagus spears in a single layer in the steamer rack. Select Steam function with S3 mode.
  • Steam the asparagus for about 5 minutes, or until the spears are tender but still crisp. Check for doneness by inserting a fork into the thickest part of a spear; it should pierce easily.
  • Once steamed, carefully transfer the asparagus to a serving dish.
  • Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  • Optionally, drizzle with melted butter for added richness and flavour.
  • Serve the steamed asparagus hot, optionally accompanied by lemon wedges for squeezing over the spears before eating.
